ABOUT MY BLOG:

What is it that fuels you? Where do you derive your sense of purpose in life?

Firstly, Priority Number One is discussing 'the elephant-in-the-room'. And that is that roughly 90% of the people calling by my blog risk being alienated from the get-go! Because, as I prove in my book, my blog posts and my day-to-day coaching practice, 90% of the people I meet are either in the wrong job altogether, or they're completely disengaged from their work.

That due to corporations becoming hyper-fixated on the profit motive, they have distilled occupations into their simplest task parcels. With the net result being that 'Decision Latitude' - the sense that workers have little or no degree of personal autonomy or opportunity to contribute their own ideas - in the workplace is not just reaching epidemic proportions. But I argue it is one of the key causes of reductions in wellbeing the world-over. This is a subject close to my heart - I am passionate about it - therefore, I am justifiably outspoken on the subject.

Secondly, why Good Being? It's THE PLACE you answer life’s biggest questions - the “who, what, why, where, how and when”? The who you are going to be?

Especially if you give flight to that truly authentic person you are deep down inside. What is your true essence? What motivates you? What are the driving values and principles that shape your interface with the big, wide world? What aptitudes do you possess?  Those questions that shape the contours of what I call Life’s Greatest Conundrum. If these are the questions fuelling your visit here, please stay a little longer and explore. Maybe even reach-out and start a conversation. Who knows where it might end up!

For me, after more than a quarter of a century of exploration, conversation, and inquiry, my purpose distilled into something I now call Good Being. It’s not a brand or a business model - it’s a lived philosophy, rooted in my lifelong work as a coach in purpose, career strategy, performance improvement and people alignment.

I’ve spent 29 years listening to people at their most vulnerable and their most visionary, and I’ve come to a firm conviction: the world of work is not working for most people.

That’s why Good Being exists - to help us reawaken what’s possible when we align who we are with what we do.

And yes, I’ll hold my hands up in the air and admit it up front - this blog might be regarded by some visitors as idealistic.

  • It asks big questions.

  • It challenges accepted norms.

  • It dares to care.

It invites people to pause and reflect on the true meaning of their working lives. And, in a culture driven by urgency and efficiency, that can feel like a rebellious act. Where conformity, convention and a one-size-fits-all mentality have a tendency to stifle individuality and suffocate raw talent.

But here’s the truth I’ve come to believe:

If it’s idealistic to challenge the fact that 90% of people are in the wrong job or disengaged from their work - then I proudly accept the label. Because this state of disconnection between workers, their work and the world we each strive to improve and deserve to feel an integral ingredient of, is unsustainable.

It’s not just inefficient. It’s a vast, heart-breaking, disjointed, utterly unsustainable waste of human potential.

Good Being is my life's most important project. It’s the place where I gather all the insights, questions, and revelations that have emerged from decades struggling to chart my own path to sparking epiphany and dovetail them to my formal career guidance training, plus my sports coaching and performance improvement toolkit, and offer those insights and breakthroughs freely here - because growing this conversation matters.

So whether you’re here to explore, recalibrate, or simply breathe a little deeper into your own truth - I’m honoured you’re reading.

Take a look around. Engage with what resonates.
Perhaps you’ll discover what truly exhilarates you.
And if you're ready to be inspired - you're already in the right place.

Peace, purpose, positivity & perseverance,

Duncan
